Sweet Honey In The Rock is a female a cappella group based in Washington DC. The group was an offshoot of a professional theatre company in DC called THE DC BLACK REPERTORY COMPANY and after many rehearsals with different company members Carol Maillard, Bernice Reagon, Louise Robinson and Mie gave their first performance at Howard University on November 17th 1973. The group has had 23 different women over 35 years and is still going strong. The film chronicles their 30th anniversary tour in 2003. Carol contacted Stanley Nelson (Murder of Emmitt Till) of Firelightmedia productions and he enthusiatically took on the project which aired on American Masters in 2005. There is also a live soundtrack culled from two concerts that year: Washington DC's Warner Theatre and Los Angeles' Wilshire Ebell theatre.
