Celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D appeared in a Los Angeles federal courtroom Tuesday to fight claims she violated the copyright of an “iconic” portrait of jazz legend Miles Davis when she tattooed a version of the image on a friend without proper credit or compensation.
The former star of reality shows Miami Ink and LA Ink sat before a jury as her lawyer said in his opening statement that Von D only used the famous photo for “inspiration” as she created a “completely different” work on her friend’s...

Charlie Corwin, the former head of Imagine Entertainment, will help Uproxx as it dives more deeply into the television and film space. The veteran executive is the first appointment to Uproxx’s advisory board. Ultimately, there will be four or five people on the board.
“The idea is that this will be a very active board filled with leaders from a number of different fields — technology, film, video, and branding,” said Benjamin Blank, Uproxx’s CEO. “We want people who can give us a 360 degree view of where media is going.”
Corwin and other board members will be compensated for their work, but Blank did not provide details about whether that will be in the form of salary or stock. Last summer, Uproxx was acquired by Warner Music Group. The company also owns HitFix and Dime, and creates original video series and daily programming. The online hub reaches 40 million people,...

Updated with a statement from Original Media
The television production company behind such reality TV shows as Swamp People and Miami Ink agreed to pay $282,000 in uncompensated overtime as part of a settlement agreement reached with New York Attorney General Barbara D. Underwood.
The attorney general’s investigation that Original Media had misclassified employees, including production assistants and associate producers, as exempt from overtime pay. As a result, many workers who were entitled to overtime never received it.
The probe revealed that these production assistants and associate producers regularly worked at least 50 hours per week — and sometimes as many as 80 hours per week — without collecting overtime. Truly Original, the new entity formed in a merger of Original Media and True Entertainment, agreed to make restitution.

Original Media, the producer of “Miami Ink” and other reality shows, has agreed to pay $282,000 in back wages in a settlement with the New York attorney general’s office.
The company was accused of failing to pay overtime to production assistants and associate producers, who sometimes worked 50 to 80 hours a week. The settlement covers workers dating back to January 2009.
The settlement is the third involving such allegations against New York-based reality TV production companies. The office previously reached a settlement with Sharp Entertainment, the producers of “Man v. Food,” and with True Entertainment, which produced “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” True Entertainment and Original Media have since merged to form Truly Original.
The Writers Guild of America East has drawn attention to misclassification of workers in the reality TV industry as part of an organizing campaign. Truly Original is non-union.

Each week “Ink Master” puts artists through a series of tattoo challenges that not only test the artists’ technical skills, but also their on-the-spot creativity, as they must create and execute an original tattoo on a “human canvas.” Each episode focuses on a different and distinct style of tattooing such as realism, black and gray, and American traditional. The masterpieces the artists create will last a lifetime – and so will their mistakes. After every challenge, the contestants face a tough panel made up of series host Dave Navarro and world renowned tattoo artists Chris Nunez (“Miami Ink”) and Oliver

There are only five artists remaining — Ryan Ashley Malarkey, Nate Beavers and Gian Karle Cruz from Team Peck and Nikki Simpson and Kelly Doty from Team Núñez. This fun-as-heck! music vid, shot by Sophie Muller at New York's InterContinental Hotel, is equal parts "Anna," Rémi Gaillard, and Miami Ink. Also, as an ironic love song, it's pretty meta in a number of ways (are you listening-slash-watching, T-Swift?). Anyway, Rip, hotel rooms. (N.B.: No hotel rooms were actually harmed in the filming of this video. One hopes.)"Perfect" is 1D's second single from Made in the A.M., which is set for a November 13 release. Getting tattooed stings a bit. Being stabbed by a bunch of tiny needles isn’t half as irritating as the public’s uninvited “feedback” on your own skin, though. Fortunately, the stigma of tattoos has very much faded, but it doesn’t mean it’s disappeared completely. Most people with visible tattoos have been in some sort of annoying situation with a blindly prejudice or frankly rude inquisitor.
Of course, tattoos are inevitably going to be looked at. If you get a great stonking phoenix on your back with galaxies for eyes and kittens living in it’s tail, you’re going to want to show it off, and anyone complaining about strangers glancing at their inked skin are twice as ignorant as the accused. It’s art, at the end of the day (well, most of it is), and if it’s on display, people will glance at it.

Keep your pawn shows, your swamp shows, your home-décor shows. I'll happily never watch anyone else house-hunt, or say yes to a dress, or have a kitchen nightmare. But dear God, please, don't take my tattoo shows away. My obsession with tattoo shows started a thousand years ago in reality TV time, with the 2005 debuts of Miami Ink and Inked. That fondness carried over to New York Ink, L.A. Ink, London Ink, even the lukewarm Tattoo Highway. And now we get to enjoy the golden era of ink shows — it's sort of a boom genre right now. Here's your guide to all the tattoo TV shows currently airing. The Contest Shows Best Ink (Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Oxygen) and Ink Master (Spike, returning later this year) are the exact same show. They might even use the same "countdown" music. And they are both terrific! It's Top Chef, but...

A few weeks ago I caught an episode of SpikeTV's Ink Master, a reality contest show that does for tattooing what Top Chef does for cooking. One challenge and one judging panel later, I was totally hooked. Just what I need: Another show to be obsessed with. But I can't help it. I'm a sucker for feats-of-skill reality contest shows.Ink Master ticks each box for the reality-contest checklist: It's based on an unusual skill in a largely insular industry; the contestants are all passably decent (at least to a layman's eye); and the judging — by tattoo legend Oliver Peck, Miami Ink alum Chris Nuñez, and, uh, Dave Navarro — is expert, harsh, and hugely informative. It's the kind of show that at once demystifies a process (oh, that's how you make a color tattoo really seem three-dimensional!) and deifies its practitioners (oh, and she is really good at it!). Each...

If this heavy metal scuba suit is any indication, Kat Von D and fiancé Deadmau5 really are planning underwater nuptials. The bride-to-be looks like she's taking her waterproof wedding wear for a dry run in this ensemble. But we're hoping this casual look is intended for the reception, not the Miami Ink star's walk down the aisle. Though, if the happy couple plans to say, "I do" among the plankton, this rubbery onesie is probably smarter than a lace gown. In which case, here's hoping that it also comes in white!

Talk about tat-tat tatted up. Queen of ink Kat Von D has more tattoos than anyone could count in one sitting. We tried. AnKat has come a long way since her first tattoo job at 14. After appearing on both Miami Ink and her own show, L.A. Ink, which was canceled last year, Kat has become one of the most sought after artists in the industry. She’s also inked some paper with two best-selling books. And with a makeup line, an art gallery, a hefty list of top clientele and her first album on the way, Kat’s permanently marked herself a business woman. Sorry, fans, but snagging a seat in Kat’s chair at High Voltage Tattoo is a pretty difficult feat: the wait list is almost two years. Some of us will just look on from afar, admiring her work, and tut-tutting about her hook-up and breakup from ex-fiance Jesse James.

In the Season 2 finale of TLC's "NY Ink," Ami finally confronts Chris Torres about all the trash he's been talking about the Wooster Street Social Club tattoo parlor.
Sadly, it's also the series finale of the reality series, a spinoff of the popular "Miami Ink" that moved proprietor Ami James up north to New York City (and a much colder climate).
Zap2it has an exclusive first look at the episode, a climactic scene where Ami finally tells Chris off. It's not as explosive as we would've liked considering it's done via phone, but Ami certainly lays a verbal smackdown on his former coworker.
Elsewhere in the episode, Tim steps up to help keep the parlor running smoothly, and Megan struggles to choose between her budding career or following her newest guy.
The series finale "NY Ink" airs Thursday, March 1 at 9 p.m. on TLC.

Hot on the heels of the news that AMC will be delivering a 90 minute premiere of The Walking Dead (read more here), the network has also announced two new series.
Jjk Security is executive produced by Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver from Left/Right (This American Life, Boomtown, Mob Wives). The show features a group of quirky characters who work at a small, family-owned private security company located in rural Georgia. Each episode will feature an investigation, a security assignment, the training of a new recruit, etc, but the real draw is what the network calls an "incredibly compelling character based story." AMC's Joel Stillerman, Senior Vice President of Original Programming, said “When we first saw the tape of Jjk we were speechless. It is unlike anything we have ever seen before - a true original. The characters are incredibly rich and compelling; and Left/Right found a way...

In one fell swoop, TLC cancelled both of its series headlined by tabloid fixtures. Following the demise of Kate Gosselin's Kate Plus 8 on Monday, the network today announced the end of La Inc starring Kat Von D. "TLC has decided that the current season of La Ink will be its last," the network said in a statement. "The network is proud of what the series has accomplished in its four seasons, following Kat Von D's journey as an artist from Miami to Los Angeles. The series finale will air September 15th at 10 Pm" Unlike Gosselin, who followed up TLC's announcement with tweets thanking the network and her fans for the long run, Kat Von D was less gracious. "I love how me deciding to not continue doing La Ink, turns into being 'cancelled,'" she tweeted. "Thanks, TLC." La Ink is one of 3 spinoff series spawned from TLC's Miami Ink,...

TLC says it has cancelled its reality show La Ink, but its star, Kat Von D, says she quit the Miami Ink spin-off and insists that the network intends to sensationalize her breakup with Jesse James, the Celebrity Apprentice and Monster Garage cast member. Celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D has been dealt another blow as she deals with her split from fiance Jesse James - her reality show has been cancelled.
La Ink, which centres around the star's life and work at West Hollywood's High Voltage Tattoo store, will not return to America's TLC network after its current season draws to a close next month.
The show, a spin-off of Miami Ink, first premiered in 2007.
The cancellation follows the breakdown of Von D's relationship with TV mechanic James; Sandra Bullock's cheating ex-husband called off their engagement last month.
On a recent episode of La Ink, Von D was shown unveiling a new tattoo of her then-fiance's face, taken from his high school yearbook.
It was that promo footage which prompted the tattooist to scrap a U.S. TV interview at the last minute and cancel her entire publicity tour for the new series, claiming she wasn't "strong enough" to face the press after she was dumped.

TLC apparently decided this was the week to distance itself from some of its biggest stars.
Just days after announcing that it would no longer document the moves of Kate Gosselin and her sizable brood, the network says Kat Von D vehicle "La Ink" is ending as well.
"TLC has decided that the current season of 'La Ink' will be its last," TLC in a statement. "The network is proud of what the series has accomplished in its four seasons, following Kat Von D's journey as an artist from Miami to Los Angeles. The series finale will air September 15th at 10 p.m. [Et]"
That journey started on "Miami Ink," TLC's original tattoo parlor reality series, which ran 9 seasons until concluding its run in 2008. This isn't the end of the "Ink" franchise, though. "NY Ink" was recently renewed for a second season and a British incarnation, "London Ink,...

According to Lifeline Live, TLC has announced the cancellation of La Ink, the spin-off of Miami Ink that followed breakout star Kat Von D attempting to open her own tattoo shop. Von D's personal life has been garnering more headlines recently, however, as her relationship (and subsequent break-up) with Jesse James had bled its way onto the show. The series finale is scheduled to air September 15th at 10:00.
This marks the second cancellation that TLC has had in a week, as they recently pulled the plug on Kate Plus 8, the post-divorce reality show from Kate Gosselin and her eight children. The show's final episode will be airing the same week as La Ink's finale, on September 12th.
Will you miss La Ink once it goes off the air? How have you been enjoying the current season, Jesse James appearances and all? What do you think Kat Von D should do next?...

"I won’t go into too much detail as it’s a very personal tattoo for me but it was a memorial tattoo for an amazing person in my life who was my very own Peter Pan. The hat from my favorite Disney character is a symbol of this person’s full life and contagious smile that will always remind me never to take life too seriously and always enjoy it like we did when we were kids." She continues, "Some say he’s in heaven, I say he went home to Neverland and his spirit will always be with me, whispering in my ear to “smile, gorgeous” when life gets heavy." The 'Ink' franchise got a new entry with the premiere of 'NY Ink' (Thu., 10Pm Et on TLC). The new series follows Ami James from 'Miami Ink' as he sets up shop back in his roots at the Big Apple. But it's a big venture and a big investment for James, so he needs things to go smoothly.
With all that stress, it's no wonder that tattoo artist Chris Torres kept getting on his nerves. For one thing, Torres has an entitled attitude that would annoy everyone. When he misplaced his keys, he asked fellow artist Megan Massacre if she was hiding them, adding, "You better not be."
When he went to talk to James about it, the latter was still sore that Torres had taken his tattoo machine earlier without asking. So he simply walked away from Torres, telling him it was his problem.

Happy 34th Birthday to Zachary Quinto, and Happy 39th Birthday to Wentworth Miller.
TLC premieres the new tattoo reality show NY Ink tonight at 10 Pm Est. Taking place in Soho (at the Wooster Street Social Club), it will feature feature Miami Ink's Ami James and a bunch of new personalities as they attempt to become the "it" tattoo shop in NY. One of those new personalities is gay shop manager Robear, who should be a great addition to the diversity of gays on TV (although when i see his name, I automatically think, "Make it out to Hair By Robaire." My undying love to whoever gets that reference). And it's great we can add to our list of hot Tattooed Love Boys.

Today is Thursday which means that I got woken up by the delightful noise of my complex's dumpster being emptied (how is it that it's always so far away when you're carrying trash but sounds So Close when they dump it?) and as far as television goes it means next to nothing anymore. However, I know you "So You Think You Can Dance" fans are legion and there's another audition episode on tonight so that's, you know, auditiony. Also the second game of the NBA Finals but I'm not sure how popular the Dallas Mavericks are and I know that most people following the Heat are doing so more out of hatred of LeBron James or the idea that the team was able to manipulate the free agent system to basically buy themselves a Finals appearance than actual appreciation. I am not one of those people. Here's your Thursday night...

Ink wars are here again, as TLC.s explosive series "NY Ink" premieres tonight, June 2 at 10/9c. Tattoo artist Ami James leaves the warm sunny shores of Miami for the mean streets of New York City. Reality and ink fans will remember him from "Miami Ink," which started in 2005 and ran about three years. The series follows Ami as he opens a shop, risking his reputation and finances on a huge new space, while recruiting an elite staff of artists whose personalities are as big as their tattoo skills. Watch for Ami's new artist Chris Torres, an old friend who delivers the drama. He's a good artist, but a management nightmare as he lifts fellow...

We just can't seem to get away from "Jersey Shore's" Angelina Pivarnick. First, the crew kicked her out of the house, then she somehow got back in for the Miami season only to get the boot again. We thought we were rid of her, but she keeps popping up. And now here she is getting a tattoo on TLC's new series, "NY Ink."
You may know the star of "NY Ink." It's Ami James formerly of "Miami Ink" and he's finally putting his money where his mouth is and returning to New York City to open up his own parlor in SoHo, the Wooster Street Social Club.
For eight episodes starting Thursday, June 2 at 10 p.m. Et, the series follows him as he tries to make his new business a success.
Check out the trashbag getting inked below:
You know, it might be fun to watch Angelina in pain.
