For Tomie buffs only.
Caustic Pulp15 April 2006
If you're a "Tomie" fan you'll find something to like here. If you have no idea what "Tomie" even is, well, how the heck would you get here anyhow? Now that it's available in all its English subtitled glory, I've had the opportunity to view "Tomie: Revenge" and to experience the kind of disappointment that's all too familiar to "Tomie" fans. The "how could they screw this up?" feeling.

To summarize the plot of "Tomie: Revenge" is an impossible undertaking simply because there really isn't one. Most of the film's ideas are scattershot, thrown to the winds. The threads that connect the characters are painfully thin, and this film has easily the worst Tomie in the series (at least until I see "Tomie: Beginning.") There are some very good scenes and concepts here, and a few exciting parts, and for what it's worth, the film does try to at least tie all the "Tomie" films together. But that's not worth much; even the source material keeps little continuity between the incarnations of Tomie.

This is the most disjointed film I've seen in a long time. Characters appear and disappear with little motivation. Tomie's personality is radically different from the manga and the previous films; so badly written and acted this Tomie is, that the most exciting scenes involving her are the ones where people are talking about her. The ones she isn't even actually in.

If you're a "Tomie" buff you're going to see this movie no matter what I say, so go for it. Just don't show it to your friends.

Ending ruined everything

1. The seventh installment of the Tomie film series. With this film I just successfully completed all the nine live-action Tomie films and I hope more installments will happen in near future.

Lots of potential but never succeed in displaying it. Kawaii girls and well performed cast but the ending ruined everything.

I've watched them all

Warning: Spoilers
Another Ataru Okiawa directed entry in the Tomie film series, this one is all about a young female doctor who hits a naked woman with her car one night. As she searches for the women through the woods, she finds an abandoned house filled with bodies and one unconscious girl. And oh yeah - the one she hit with her car just happened to have a mole under her eye.

This episode is based on Junji Ito's manga Tomie Chapter 5:Revenge. In that story, a crew of hikers is looking for a missing man on a frozen mountain and, as often happens around frozen mountains, cannibalism ensues.

The same thing goes on here, except Tomie lives in a cabin with all her male servants, who she occasionally eats when she isn't screaming stuff that sounds a lot like The Scum Manifesto.

I would advise not watching every Tomie movie in one week, but if you haven't learned how strong my film-watching endurance is, you don't know me.

Not a recognisable Tomie movie

Warning: Spoilers
The worst TOMIE film yet. Very cheap, shot on video and with no appealing or likeable characters. Weird and murderous events have taken place at a cabin in the woods and Tomie might be involved. Except this isn't the same Tomie as in the other movies, instead she's just a generic zombie-type cannibal girl who wanders around naked and kills people. I miss the Tomie plot and in its place this is simply substandard, cliched, generic and boring.
