- Bill Buchanan: [During a briefing] although we were able to limit casualties at the mall, the terrorists made good on their threat to release the nerve gas on US soil: unless we catch a break, we can expect to suffer multiple attacks that would result in mass causalities
- Bill Buchanan: [to Lynn when he arrived late] I assume you wanted me to start without you?
- Lynn McGill: [Irritated] just tell me where we are
- Bill Buchanan: LAPD is setting up a perimeter around the terrorists last known location. We activated all search protocols including satellite and CALTRANS surveillance
- Lynn McGill: But we don't have any "real" leads do we?
- Lynn McGill: [after Bill doesn't respond] if Jack Bauer followed orders to maintain his cover, we could've intercepted these people
- Audrey Raines: We don't know that for sure: what we do know Jack's field decision saved over eight hundred innocent people
- Lynn McGill: In the long term, it'll cost us a hundred times that many people
- Audrey Raines: In the meantime, we've contained the physical threat and the media's awareness, which would've triggered massive civil unrest
- Lynn McGill: You tell yourself that if you want to: the facts remains these terrorists are at large. Nineteen canisters of Sentox nerve gas and we don't know where or when they're going to hit us next
- Bill Buchanan: We're all aware of the situation
- Lynn McGill: Why does she keep defending Bauer? I want Bauer placed in custody, I want him brought in here, I want him held responsible of what's happened
- Bill Buchanan: Jack can be disciplined later. Taking him out of the field right now is a mistake
- Lynn McGill: [Sternly] don't tell me how to do my job
- Bill Buchanan: He was authorized by the President
- Lynn McGill: But he works for me and so do you. I want him here now: the rest of you maintain your search protocols. Send your progress reports to my screen in ten minutes
- Curtis Manning: I just got a call from Bill: Lynn McGill wants me to bring you back to CTU. His on some kind of "warpath"
- Jack Bauer: Why? Because I didn't think letting terrorists release the Sentox nerve gas in a crowded mall was an "acceptable loss?"
- Curtis Manning: And because we lost our only real lead. Lynn's looking for someone to blame
- Jack Bauer: I was appointed by the President of the United States, it was a field call
- Curtis Manning: I know and between you and me, I think you made the right call back at the mall
- Jack Bauer: I'm calling the President
- Curtis Manning: The trail's gone "cold", there's no point in fighting this. Let's just go back to CTU and "square" it
- Jack Bauer: Fine
- Curtis Manning: Sorry, but I'm going have to take your gun
- Curtis Manning: [after Jack hesitates] don't make this any harder than it already is
- James Nathanson: [Over the phone] if you try to trace this call or put anyone else on the line, I'll hang up
- Audrey Raines: Who is this?
- James Nathanson: My name's James Nathanson, I'm sure Walt Cummings has told you all about me
- Audrey Raines: You're the one who sold the nerve gas to the terrorists
- James Nathanson: That's close enough to "the truth"
- Audrey Raines: What'd you want?
- James Nathanson: Transfer me to Jack Bauer on a clean line
- Audrey Raines: Why Jack?
- James Nathanson: That's not your concern
- Audrey Raines: Your getting to Jack through me: that makes it my concern
- James Nathanson: I'm going through you because you have a "special" relationship with Bauer, I know all about you, which is why I'm counting on you to recognize an "opportunity" when it presents itself
- Audrey Raines: What "opportunity?"
- James Nathanson: I can help you find this nerve gas
- Audrey Raines: How do I know your telling the truth?
- James Nathanson: You don't, now put me through to Bauer
- Audrey Raines: [Over the phone] what I'm about to tell you has to stay between us
- Audrey Raines: [after Chloe doesn't respond] it involves Jack
- Chloe O'Brian: What is going on? It just came on my screen that Jack's gone missing?
- Audrey Raines: His following a lead on the Sentox gas: he needed to go alone, I just transferred a phone call from my station to him. I need you to delete the record
- Chloe O'Brian: If Lynn finds out we're working behind his back...
- Audrey Raines: [Interrupts her] I know believe me, this is the only way, there isn't a lot of time
- Chloe O'Brian: When did you make the call?
- Chloe O'Brian: [after seeing the records] I found the transfer, I can't just dump the one call, their all cross-indexed
- Audrey Raines: Can't you unlink it?
- Chloe O'Brian: No, it takes like two hours. The only way to get rid of the entry is to delete the entire log: all the calls made and received today
- Audrey Raines: Do it
- Audrey Raines: [Over the phone, after Jack patching Jack into this conversation] I'm on the phone with a man who claims to be "James Nathanson." he was Walt Cummings' contact: he says he has information about the terrorists but he'll only talk to you
- Jack Bauer: Why me?
- James Nathanson: You can hang up now Ms. Raines: my phone has a node monitor, I'll know if anyone else comes on this line
- Audrey Raines: Jack?
- Jack Bauer: [to Audrey] It's alright, hang up the phone
- Jack Bauer: [to James] What'd you want with me?
- James Nathanson: Protection. The terrorists your after are trying to kill me
- Jack Bauer: The terrorists figured out you're the one who rigged the canisters, the Sentox will blow up in their faces, what'd you need me for? Just turn yourself into the authorities, they'll protect you
- James Nathanson: Walt Cummings isn't the only one in this operation who works inside the government, I need your help
- Jack Bauer: You conspired to have me take the fall for the assassination: what makes you think I'm not going to kill you myself?
- James Nathanson: Because you want to stop the Sentox nerve gas from being released on US soil, so do I
- Jack Bauer: Where are you?
- James Nathanson: There a phone booth on the south side of Mort Park, just east of Densmore, be there in ten minutes or I'll be gone
- Jack Bauer: [Referring to Bierko] he wants to assassinate Suvarov
- Mike Novick: You can't let that happen: if the Russian President is killed on US soil, it wouldn't just nullify the treaty, it would destroy our relationship with Moscow
- Jack Bauer: Get me Suvarov's route from Secret Service
- Mike Novick: Mr. President...
- Jack Bauer: [Interrupts him] no I haven't any decision yet but whatever I decide, I better have the route in hand when he calls back don't you think?
- Mike Novick: Yes Sir
- President Charles Logan: [after he enters the room] what is it now?
- Mike Novick: I'm sorry Sir but there's a call you need to take: it just came in on this
- President Charles Logan: And what is that?
- Mike Novick: Walt Cummings' phone Sir. It's been in Secret Service custody, they just brought it to me. The caller's claiming he has the Sentox nerve gas
- President Charles Logan: Is someone tracing the call?
- Mike Novick: They can't, it's being sent through multiple relays
- President Charles Logan: I'm not talking to terrorists, you talk to them, you find out what he wants
- Mike Novick: His demanding to speak to you
- President Charles Logan: [At first reluctantly] alright, put him on speaker
- President Charles Logan: This is President Logan, is this Erwich?
- Vladimir Bierko: Ivan Erwich is no longer with us. His attack on your shopping mall was unsanctioned and unwarranted: it didn't serve our interests
- President Charles Logan: What is it you want?
- Vladimir Bierko: What I want is to release the Sentox nerve gas on Moscow. Since that is now impossible, I am forced to strike at Russia on foreign soil, with your help
- President Charles Logan: My help?
- Vladimir Bierko: I want the route of Suvarov's motorcade. His entire route to airport, along with a full profile of his security detail
- President Charles Logan: I personally don't have that information
- Vladimir Bierko: Then get it, make no mistake, it's our Russian oppressors I need to hurt, not your people. However you refuse to cooperate, I'll have no choice but to release all the Sentox in areas far more populated than your shopping mall
- President Charles Logan: You just said killing Americans doesn't serve your interests, this would be senseless murder
- Vladimir Bierko: Yes, it would so give me Suvarov's route
- President Charles Logan: I'll need some time
- Vladimir Bierko: You have fifteen minutes
- President Charles Logan: [Before Bierko hangs up] I'm not sure...
- Lynn McGill: Someone's "screwing" with me and I won't tolerate it
- Bill Buchanan: "Screwing" with you how?
- Lynn McGill: Audrey Raines' phone log has been erased
- Bill Buchanan: What?
- Lynn McGill: [Hands him the log on paper] take a look
- Bill Buchanan: Probably a system glitch
- Lynn McGill: It wasn't a glitch: she did it on purpose
- Bill Buchanan: Audrey? You think Audrey did this?
- Lynn McGill: I know she did
- Bill Buchanan: That's ridiculous. She's one of the most "by the book" people I know
- Lynn McGill: You don't go "by the book" when you're trying to hide something. Did you know she was on the phone with Jack right before he attacked Curtis?
- Bill Buchanan: No, I didn't know that: what does that prove?
- Lynn McGill: There's something going with these two, what's their history?
- Bill Buchanan: You know their history, they worked together at DOD
- Lynn McGill: There's more than that right?
- Bill Buchanan: It got personal later on
- Lynn McGill: Personal? And you didn't it was important to tell me that?
- Bill Buchanan: No, I didn't, what difference does that make?
- Lynn McGill: When did she find out Jack was still alive?
- Bill Buchanan: This morning with the rest of us
- Lynn McGill: You sure about that?
- Bill Buchanan: I was there, I saw her reaction
- Lynn McGill: It could've been an act
- Bill Buchanan: You're starting to sound paranoid
- Lynn McGill: I don't care how I sound. From this point on, I want all of our people on a tight leash, if someone has a hidden agenda, I want to know about it. CTU's become way too porous and that's your fault
- Bill Buchanan: I don't need to hear this from you
- Lynn McGill: You don't need to hear this from me? Then tell me why Audrey erased her phone logs?
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] I'm here, where are you?
- James Nathanson: In a minute: first I want to make sure you weren't followed otherwise, there's no deal. Take the alleyway between the two buildings across the street from you. I left the gate open
- Jack Bauer: Listen to me, I don't know what you think I can do for you but you committed treason
- James Nathanson: I don't see it that way, I love this country
- Jack Bauer: You're never going to be able to justify killing David Palmer
- James Nathanson: That was an unfortunate "necessity." We admired Palmer but we had other priorities, this country needs a reason to secure its oil interests in Asia: a reason Russia and the rest of the world can get behind
- Jack Bauer: I've heard your "reasoning" from Walt Cummings, its still treason
- James Nathanson: No, it's a real politic. Do you see the open door ahead?
- Jack Bauer: Yeah
- James Nathanson: Enter it, make two right turns and walk back the direction you came from
- Audrey Raines: [Talking privately] DOD wants a fuller explanation about what happened at the mall, I told them we're still trying to find a thread on the nerve gas
- Bill Buchanan: I just spent the last five minutes getting grilled by Lynn
- Audrey Raines: About what?
- Bill Buchanan: You and Jack: your relationship
- Audrey Raines: What'd you tell him?
- Bill Buchanan: The truth, that you and he were once romantically involved, now I'm not sure
- Audrey Raines: I don't see how that's any of his business
- Bill Buchanan: He thinks it is. He thinks you had something to do with Jack breaking from custody
- Bill Buchanan: [after she becomes silent] did you?
- Audrey Raines: Not exactly
- Bill Buchanan: What the hell does that mean?
- Audrey Raines: A man claimed to be James Nathanson called here about twenty minutes ago and he said he had information on the terrorists that he would only give it to Jack
- Bill Buchanan: Why didn't you tell me about this?
- Audrey Raines: was afraid of losing this lead, I don't know what to do
- Bill Buchanan: Jack's meeting with this man Nathanson alone? Without backup? Where is he?
- Audrey Raines: I don't know, Nathanson dropped me off the call
- Bill Buchanan: Who else knows about this?
- Audrey Raines: Just Chloe, she helped me cover the call from Lynn
- Martha Logan: Sir, if President Suvarov is killed, if the Russians find out we supplied this information, it will be considered an act of war
- President Charles Logan: The Russian motorcade has a significant security force, I see no reason to believe that the terrorists would even be successful: maybe we should have an analysis done to determine the vulnerable "points" along the route?
- Mike Novick: Sir, we can't do that without giving away we had advance knowledge of the attack
- Martha Logan: [Just entering the room and overhearing their conversation] what attack?
- President Charles Logan: [Surprised to see her] it's nothing you need to be concerned about
- Martha Logan: [Sternly to Charles] you invited me into this circle: what attack?
- President Charles Logan: The terrorists want the Suvarov motorcade route. They've threatened to deploy more Sentox gas if I didn't give it to them
- Martha Logan: You're not seriously considering it are you?
- Mike Novick: [to Martha, while Charles remains silent] Charles believes an assault on the Suvarov has a good chance...
- Martha Logan: [Interrupts him, annoyed] will you please let the President speak for himself? May we have a moment?
- President Charles Logan: [after Mike leaves the room] please, if I don't give them the information they want, tens of thousands of Americans will die on our own soil: maybe hundreds of thousands and I will be responsible
- Martha Logan: Alright, there's got to be another way, change their itinerary, and delay Suvarov from leaving
- President Charles Logan: It's all over the news, the Russians are leaving after we make the joint statement. If there's any deviation from that, the terrorists will know that I've alerted them
- Martha Logan: [Covering her face with her hands] what're you saying? What're you telling me? That we are going to stand in front of the entire world with the Suvarovs, you're going to look at him in the eye, shake his hand, knowing your sending them to their deaths?
- President Charles Logan: If we were in Russia, and Suvarov got this ultimatum, do you think he would spare us?
- Martha Logan: [Raising her voice] I'm not talking about Russia, I'm not talking about the Suvarovs, and I'm talking about you: the President of the United States, you're talking about murder
- President Charles Logan: My back is against the wall. Give me another solution?
- Martha Logan: [Yells] stand up to them, refuse to negotiate with them, is that the policy of this country? Isn't that the point of the treaty you just signed?
- President Charles Logan: It's not that simple: it never is
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] what'd you got?
- Chloe O'Brian: [while checking the information on her computer] the decryption element "kicked out" a company called Teradyne: the past three years they've acquired more than a hundred pounds of raw strontium isotope used to create Sentox nerve gas
- Jack Bauer: Where do I find Teradyne?
- Chloe O'Brian: It's a subsidiary of a larger corporation called Omicron International
- Jack Bauer: Hold on, did you say Omicron?
- Chloe O'Brian: Yeah
- Jack Bauer: Are you sure?
- Chloe O'Brian: What's wrong?
- Jack Bauer: Pull up the senior executive roaster: see if a man named Christopher Henderson is on the list
- Chloe O'Brian: Why?
- Jack Bauer: Just do it please
- Chloe O'Brian: Ok, here it is. Christopher Henderson Senior Vice President of Research and Development, do you know him?
- Jack Bauer: Yeah I did, "once." Listen, send the decrypted files over to my PDA
- Chloe O'Brian: It's going to be a little hard to do right now. Lynn is watching everyone like a hawk
- Jack Bauer: Let Buchanan help
- Chloe O'Brian: He could if he weren't in holding
- Jack Bauer: What're you talking about?
- Chloe O'Brian: Lynn detained him for insubordination
- Jack Bauer: How could he do that?
- Chloe O'Brian: Because his losing it, I think the President is putting too much pressure on him to find those canisters: he can't handle it
- Jack Bauer: I'm still going to need those decrypted files, you're going to have to find a way of getting them to me
- Chloe O'Brian: [Before hanging up] I'll try
