At the end, Sgt. MacDonald tells Malloy that he's proud he didn't question his (burgeoning juvenile delinquent) son when he broke curfew and came in real late in the morning. Why would this be a thing a police sergeant would be proud of? A policeman needs to be more strict with his children than a regular father, and a sergeant even more. Why cower, back down and allow the kid to break curfew?
