53 years later, police would probably handle a drunk driver a little bit differently. First this driver passes a police cruiser illegally. Then he cuts a right hand turn in front of the cruiser from a non-existant left lane. Then the guys turns out to be drunk and naked.
Officers Malloy and Reed can't help but smile as they have a nice chat with Mr. Naked Drunk. Seems he left his I. D. in his wallet, in his pants which are getting a nice tan back at a beach. Even Sergeant "Mac" McDonald (who pulled up in his police station wagon, blanket in hand, exactly 10 seconds after Reed requested one via the 2-way radio) watches with a smirk as Malloy and Reed drive off with Mr. Naked Drunk hanging halfway out the cruiser window. Drunk Drivers in 1970 were so quirky! Don't forget - the show's end credits always inform the viewer that the stories presented are true.
Another segment has the partners staking out a park late at night. They spot a couple dudes selling stolen auto parts out of their van. Malloy and Reed have a perfect view while sitting in the cruiser. The two criminals never spot the cruiser despite being out of their van, walking about while looking around making certain they're not being watched by anyone - you know, like those two cops in the squad car over there. A foot chase ensues and Malloy has a good look around some very unsafe looking playground equipment. Unsafe from a 2023 point of view. Ultimate Fun Time City in 1970. Malloy gets a surprise when the bad guy who ran drops in on him.
The big wonder of the episode though is, how does a 10 year old kid find $21,000.00 dollars, and not spend a dollar of it for one month??? (Again - true story!) An even bigger wonder is, who lost the money? How? When? The kid said he found the cash behind a supermarket. Did it belong to the supermarket? The episode never tells us! It's 53 years later now. I'm still wondering!
