- Officer Pete Malloy: [after getting assurances from the two in the dispute that nothing further will happen between them] Just so that it's absolutely clear to you... if we have to come back here again, somebody's going to jail.
- [last lines]
- Officer Pete Malloy: I talked to the hospital... it's homicide. Dead on arrival.
- Sgt. Jerry Miller: [letting out a big sigh] He's asking about Wellman. He knows he hurt him pretty bad, but figures he'll be okay.
- Officer Jim Reed: Has he told you anything yet?
- Sgt. Jerry Miller: Just that caught Wellman in his garage again, and Wellman came at him with a boat hook, and he managed to drop him with a fire extinguisher. Just keeps saying he was tired of being pushed around.
- Officer Pete Malloy: The hospital says he hit Wellman on the head at least four times.
- Sgt. Jerry Miller: Well, I better go break the news to him.
- Officer Pete Malloy: [about something the perpetrator Romer kept on saying about the victim Wellman] You can tell him he pushed back a little too hard.
- Sgt. Jerry Miller: [in a childlike voice in speaking to his infant daughter on the telephone from the detectives' office at the police station] Yes, Dinah... That's wonderful, but now you've got to get off the phone now... don't... don't, don't hang it up, honey. No. You just let your Daddy speak to your Mommy... Yeah, yeah, I'm listening... Yeah, that's very funny, but...
- Sgt. Jerry Miller: [covering the mouthpiece in addressing Malloy, who has come up behind him] It's, uh, my daughter, she's reading me the funnies... I think.
- Sgt. Jerry Miller: [back to talking to his daughter on the phone] Hu, Honey... no, no, sweetheart, listen, listen I'd like to hear a lot more but I can't right now. You put the phone down and get your mother for me. Don't put the phone...
- [Miller has a worried expression on his face]
- Sgt. Jerry Miller: [to Malloy as he hangs up the phone] She hung it up! It's just ridiculous. You try to carry on an intelligent conversation with a three year old.
