You Had To Think About This One
ccthemovieman-112 August 2006
This decent-but not-super episode was different in that it actually had an intelligent ending. It was a surprise finish that most people wouldn't see coming and required a bit of brain power to figure out - at least more than what any young kid watching this show could figure out: scientific stuff involving radium.

Prior to that, the story concerns people buying supposedly genuine knifes that had been crushed on Superman's chest. They were fakes, but people who bought them from this eccentric old man and his shop, were soon mugged for those knives, leading one to believe one of the knives contained something valuable

The story, like a Charlie Chan or Sherlock Holmes, story, all fall into piece in the final minutes as Superman explains the whats and the whys.

This Knife Story Had No Point to It
Hitchcoc7 February 2015
A man who runs a curiosity shop tries to sell items that relate to Superman and his exploits. After the arrest of a couple crooks, they are wrapped up in a crowbar Superman has bent to use as shackles. The old man grabs it and takes it to his shop after the arrest. It turns out that while this is a one of a kind item, he has others that are anything but original. For example, he has numerous knives that are bent backward (supposedly Superman was attacked with a knife and it bent) and the old man makes more to order. Suddenly, all over Metropolis, people who purchased these knives are being assaulted and their souvenirs stolen. It is decided that Kent will be a decoy in hopes that someone will try to take his knife. The conclusion is ridiculous because if the knives were being arbitrarily produced, how can they fulfill the events of the conclusion. Don't think too much about this one.

Sorry to say this one was terrible

I really could not fathom the premise of the knife collection, and the knife thefts. Even when it was explained it made no sense at all. It is like they reached the bottom of the barrel in their list of ideas for screenplays. Too bad! This is a very confused and convoluted story without any really satisfying conclusion and without enough tension. It's worth watching twice though, just to try to figure out what they were trying to do with the story line, but it is frustrating. Superman and Clark Kent hardly get a chance to shine in this one. After watching it twice I still can't give you a good plot outline that would make you want to see it. It's certainly one of the weaker episodes of the series, unfortunately.

I am sorry to have to compare it with the excellence of the many episodes that remained memorable to me more than 50 years after I saw them as a child. But maybe that alone proves that this one does not meet the standards they had in the beginning.
