In joke: The bus Rod Osbourne gets onto at the end has a sign saying it goes via "Osborne Road".
Another one of many family connections in this series. Denise Welch is the real life wife of Tim Healy. She plays Jean, the woman who now lives in Oz's old flat. She is also the god daughter of Ian La Frenais, one of the writers on the series.
Rod was due to make his first appearance (played by a different actor) in "The Girls They Left Behind" (series one), where Oz says goodbye to him. The scene was however deleted. Oz explains that Marjorie named Rodney after Rod Stewart, and that his name should really be "Rod". (The singer's name is short for Roderick and not Rodney though.) In actual fact, Rod first makes an appearance here, and is only referred to in the other episode.
