In the nightclub, Margaret (played by Hattie Winston), is upset with the pianist and tells him to play a decent b-flat. The pianist is played by Harold Wheeler, a composer and conductor, and is Hattie Winston's real-life husband.
That Hattie Winston showed she was a terrific singer should have been no surprise. That it took "Becker" six seasons, until one of the final shows, to let this happen - or insist on it - was the surprise. Winston was a legit Broadway star and had been in, among others, "Hair"; "Two Gentlemen of Verona"; and "The Tap Dance Kid."
