SHORTY AND HIS VAST FORTUNE??
tcchelsey25 June 2023
Shug Fisher (whose real name was George) was a veteran singer, song writer and comedy actor in western films and tv shows. In the early 1930s, he actually hooked up with a radio singing group in Los Angeles called the Beverly Hill Billies. Emmm?

Here, Shug plays Shorty, a long time friend of Jed and the family, who comes to visit a spell --and before you know it, crafty Mr. Drysdale thinks he's another millionaire.

Of course Jethro and his exaggerations play a part in the insanity, talking about Shorty's investment in a silver mine? "He got a couple of hundred out of it..." Jethro tells Drysdale, who calculates the cash flow into millions! Best of the best is Drysdale forming a so-called orgy of belly-dancers in his office, to woo Shorty into depositing his vast fortune in the bank. Outrageous stuff, and very well written with some funny one liners. Shorty mistakes Mrs. Drysdale for his mother! This means war! Harriett MacGibbon was always fun to watch as Mrs. Drysdale as she was po'd against the world! Shug held a record for more than 20 appearances on GUNSMOKE alone, and many other tv western shows, including the HILLBILLIES.

Not to be missed. Season 8 Episode 9 CBS dvd box set. (restored).
