When Granny can't seem to get into the Xmas spirit, Jed suggests that "giving" is the solution to get her out of the dumps. Meanwhile, Mrs. Drysdale would rather her husband send those awful Clampetts on a holiday vacation - to Devil's Island!
Figuring into the plot is Granny's mind-reading potion that seems to tell her Mrs. D would like new shoes for Xmas; and Mrs. D's large donation of old clothing to a charity rummage sale. The scene where Granny's on the floor trying to decipher the shoe size is very funny. Also great is the part when the Clampetts are going through Mrs. D's castoffs, thinking the rich snob is selling off all that "high fashion finery" because she needs the money.
Jed gets them all jobs at an upscale department store, where Jethro and Elly play Santa and his helper, Jed's in Sporting Goods and Granny in the Lingerie Department. "A mosquito could bite through this" she opines, about a babydoll nightie. Of course, Mrs. Drysdale shows up and goes all "Karen" on salesgirl Granny.
The cast breaks the fourth wall at the end to sing "We Wish You a Merry Xmas".
This is the first BEVERLY HILLBILLIES Xmas episode in color, and it is also the best of the color ones. 8/10.
