BLACK SADDLE – "Client Meade" – 1959
This is episode two of the 44 episode run of the 1959-60 western series, BLACK SADDLE. Peter Breck stars as a former gunfighter turned lawyer. Of course his past gets him in all sorts of trouble.
In this episode, a young man, Clu Gulager, rides into town to see a friend of his, Ned Glass. Three brothers, Hamp Fancher, Joe Perry and Avrid Nelson with a previous beef with Gulager, are also in town. Nelson draws on Gulager but gets the short end of the debate. The remaining two brothers swear out a charge of murder against Gulager.
Breck steps up to defend him. He finds a witness, George Mitchell, to the killing. Mitchell backs Gulager's version of self defense. A hearing is called but the witness changes his story. He now says that Gulager murdered Nelson. Marshall Russell Johnson tosses Gulager in Jail to wait for the circuit judge.
Breck and Johnson quiz the witness again and discover that Fancher and Perry had threatened to kill Mitchell's wife and child. Complicating matters is Gulager's friend, Glass. Glass has busted Gulager out of jail. This brings more gun-play as the two remaining brothers, Fancher and Perry come a gunning. Breck and Johnson arrive just in time to join the gunfight. Gulager is killed while Fancher and Perry are dispatched by Breck.
A quick half hour duster with plenty of violence.
