- Ranchers are being killed, cattle stolen, and even after former U.S. Deputy Marshal Denver McKee sends posses after the suspects, they are never found. Meanwhile, McKee suspiciously has plenty of money to take care of his daughter and her schooling back East.—Rob
- This episode began with four outlaws led by a young and gruff Mort (Bob Barker), robbing and shooting an old miner named Pete Redfern. Adam, Hoss, and Joe give chase but lose the bandits, however ol'Pete tells them a red headed stranger shot him before he dies. Next we see Ben riding out to visit with his good friend and neighbor Denver KcKee, The greatest sheriff Colorado ever had. Ben converses with Denver's ranch foreman Miles Briscoe, as a visibly nervous Denver emerges in his finest clothes. The conversation is of Denver's daughter, Connie an 18 year old former tom-boy returning to Virginia City on a stage after 4 years of girls finishing school. Denver states he wants to provide her security and happiness. Ben offers to throw a welcome home party at the Ponderosa, They agree althought Miles must decline due to his duties on the McKee ranch and the old friends part. Next the Cartwright boys inform their father of Ol'Pete's plight and final words. The Carwrights agree this being the third robbery in a month it must be an organized outfit, Ben suggests they look to the best tracker around, none other than Denver McKee to pick up the trail, They agree however not to spoil Connie's homecoming with news of the robberies. Later little Joe prepares for the party, as his brothers enter to tease him about his pretty boy looks, he turns the tables and they all joke until leaving for the party, where the conversation is about Connie's return, as the McKee's arrive. Little Joe see's Connie all grown up, the Cartwright boys are astounded at her beauty. The brash Little Joe greet's her with a kiss. He is returned a SLAP as she tells her father "In the east thats how we treat men who get fresh" Her father is sure the two are picking up right where they left off allways fighting. During the whole party Denver and Ben discuss providing stability for their children, Joe tries to win her undidived attention, Connie however would like to meet new friends which she does while learning he has romanced so many girls that a "Girls Protective Association" has been started just for his town visits. The party ends with Hoss polishing off the last piece of cake, As well as a verbal truce and smile between Joe and Connie. The next day Joe draws a short straw to stay at the Ponderosa
