Before Granddad goes on his date, he and Riley have an argument about whether he has has game, Riley asking "What you know about game?" Their conversation closely mirrors a conversation between Craig (Ice Cube) and his mother (Anna Maria Hosford) in the first Friday (1995), in which she tries to defend that his father has game. In the film, Craig's dad was played by John Witherspoon, who also voices Granddad, while Craig's sister Dana, who was present in the scene laughing at the conversation, was played by Regina King, who also voices Riley and Huey in this series.
When Granddad describes Cristal, he says "She's in my heart, she's in my soul" and "I just wanna be her everything", which is a reference to two 1970s hit songs, "You're in My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" by Rod Stewart and "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" by Andy Gibb.
