Whenever you hear that someone has been murdered, you like to think that maybe it was for the inheritance through a will or something. While investigating the murder, we find that writer Julian Buck had quite a few enemies/people with a motive to do him in; the list includes Terry-Thomas, Rita Moreno, Ed Begley, Karl Boehm, Corinne Calvet, and Keenan Wynn.

Marissa Mathes, Rita Moreno, and Rebecca Welles are still alive.

Burke's Laws: "You can't solve a murder without first finding a suspect." "Never call your captain unless it's murder." "Never punch driver in nose; see how big first."

A wonderfully twisty mystery with some great acting turns.

This is a really involved tale that's crafted into 51 minutes. Why isn't this done anymore??? ...Ah, I guess we all know why. Even the revived 1994 version never got close to these heights. I love how this all turns out. Probably one of the better television mysteries filmed.

Then there are some standout performances. Rita Moreno's time is just spectacular. She should have still another Emmy on her mantle for this short bit. How she starts one way and ends another is ace acting.

Then there's one of the best acting I've seen Keenan Wynn accomplish. You'd think he would show his typical blustry performance. As he is presented first in photograph as a boxer, i expected a blustry boxer. What we get is a perfect portrayal.

The story starts involving a man who has not been murdered and then takes all sorts of turns. Anything I write more specifically would make absorbing this finely written and directed episode not as fun.

Bottom line: I recommend this episode. 10 out of 10 points.
