A duel of wits
bkoganbing16 February 2016
The only cast members in this Checkmate episode are the regulars and guest star Jeffrey Hunter. We learn here that criminal psychologist Sebastian Cabot when he's not working for Checkmate is busy assisting the parole board in California with evaluations. One such evaluation of prisoner Jeffrey Hunter puts him and the others in a nice jackpot.

When Cabot arrives at the office late it's for a little birthday celebration for him and he finds an armed and somewhat unbalanced Jeffrey Hunter awaiting him. Hunter did an extra five years in the joint because of Cabot's evaluation and now it's time for payback in his view.

For those of you who remember Hunter from those John Ford movies and playing Jesus in King Of Kings this will be a revelation. Hunter is dirty disheveled and not thinking rationally. Before Anthony George and Doug McClure arrive the bulk of the episode is a battle of wits between Cabot and Hunter. Shades of the William Holden film The Dark Past.

Watch this Checkmate story for a very different Jeffrey Hunter.
