"Bird in a Gilded Cage" marked the final TV appearance of Carmel Myers, one of the silent screen's most glamorous sirens, playing former silent screen starlet Violette Baines, whose vehicle takes its last gasp in Ed Brown's garage, even as Ed recognizes her as a glamorous movie star of yesteryear. He happily boasts that he's probably her greatest living fan: "you're probably my only living fan!" Having played many waitresses in her films, she's looking forward to being one at Ramon's Rotisserie, but Ed becomes indignant at the thought that such a big star would be reduced to taking orders for a living. What he doesn't know is how difficult her life has been with several husbands, but she never lost her charm. Ed's constant fawning over Violette gets her fired by diner owner Ramon (Carlos Romero), continuing to treat her like a star by putting her up in his garage. She adores Ed for everything he's done for her, but prefers he not interfere with her latest job as a governess. Carmel name drops one of her former co-stars, John Barrymore, with whom she appeared in a pair of 1931 thrillers, "Svengali" and "The Mad Genius."
