Rosey Grier and Eddie Quillan
kevinolzak23 July 2016
"Black Tie Blues" features silent screen comedian Eddie Quillan, a career spanning seven decades in both films and television, here cast as a bum pilfering donuts from Della's Car-Tessen, who claims he only pays when he gets caught! Della requests that Ed come as her date at a Save Our Youth charity dinner, opposite celebrities like John Wayne and Doris Day, at $100 a plate. The last thing Ed wants to do is attend a black tie affair, let alone have to dance with his landlady. Chico convinces Della that Louie would be anxious to go, to meet his idol Rosey Grier (who appears as himself). We learn that Louie's grandfather, father, and both uncles were all garbagemen, while his sister came close in marrying poor white trash!
