Farewell to special guest star Charo
kevinolzak6 July 2016
"Charo and the Matador" marked the last of four appearances from Aunt Charo, who is being courted by Antonio (Gino Conforti), her Spanish matador and fiancée since the age of 8. Ed gives up his bedroom to the couple, only to find the bride not so blushing because she doesn't love him. Charo sings and strums her guitar as Ed walks down the steps, putting on an act to fool her amorous bullfighter, more used to dishing out the bull instead of receiving it. Imagine her shock when he goes forward with the wedding plans, certain that if she can turn on an 'old duck' like Ed she must be good! Only the news that her wealthy family lost everything does he break the engagement, heading to Cleveland to marry Carmelita Hernandez, to whom he became engaged when he was 9! Charo made a good impression in only four episodes (Della Reese already departed), but only six more would be produced, introducing another new character to be played by Julie Hill. After this broadcast the series went off the air until the remainder could be aired during the summer months, the bitter end in sight.
