"New Suit" was the episode that introduced the only other regular character besides Ed Brown to last through the end of the series, Scatman Crothers as garbage man Louie Wilson, who has been working in the barrio for 15 years ('stick out your can, here comes the garbage man'): "how's business?" "pickin' up!" Louie reads garbage cans the way gypsies read tea leaves, in regard to Ed's constant drinking: "the less bottles in the old corral, the less you been ridin' on the range!" Ed receives an invitation to a reunion of his old army battalion, but he's not interested no matter how much Chico tries to persuade him. The lack of a new suit is another deterrent. Another reprise of "It's not my job!"
