The unhousebroken Mobetie
bkoganbing5 April 2020
Warren Oates dominates this Cimarron Strip story with one rambunctious performance as Mobetie which was a child's way of trying to say nobody. He was a foundling kid with no kind of upbringing.

For Stuart Whitman Oates is getting to be a bigger and bigger annoyance as he has a real problem. a cargo full of old and unstable dynamite sitting in railroad freight car that has to be moved lest it blow up half the town.

William Watson and his gang have their own scheme to take advantage of the situatiion and it involves Oates. Let's say he can be easily manipulated.

An episode for Warren Oates and fans of his.

Mobeetie...one of the more annoying characters I've ever seen on TV.

If you ever watched the old "Andy Griffith Show", you probably remember the very annoying and strange character, Ernest T. Bass. I never liked this character, though many did. Regardless, this was a comedy and over the top acting and characters generally worked....but imagine a character like Bass in a drama! That's exactly what you'll see in "Nobody"...with Warren Oates playing a guy every bit as dumb and subhuman as Bass.

In this episode, Marshall Crown has to deal with three major problems at the same time. First, a complete imbecile named 'Mobeetie' (Warren Oates) blunders into town and creates chaos everywhere he goes. Second, a murderer is caught by the Marshall...but the witnesses all disappear and he's forced to let this evil man loose. Third, the railroad dumps a train car on the siding right in the middle of town....and it's filled with dynamite that is starting to decay and might blow up at any moment! Can the Marshall manage to deal successfully with all three problems or is the town really screwed?

While I liked most of the early episodes of "Cimarron Strip", I must admit that the started to go downhill fast starting with episode 9. All sorts of crazy plots started appearing in the show and it was as if they knew the show would be canceled and they put ANYTHING on the screen! And, interestingly enough, it was soon canceled after only 23 episodes....and stuff like "Nobody" surely led to the cancellation.

While Warren Oates was a great villain, here even with his skills he cannot do much with Mobeetie...he's just so badly written and dopey....to the point of being a caricature instead of a believable person. Overall, a very weak episode...mostly because of this incredibly grating character. Plus, considering everything Mobeetie did in the show, why didn't someone just shoot him?! Seriously....watch the show and you'll see what I mean.
