Sapper Wilkins attempts to sell two tickets to a Brentford Football Club match. Whilst the football League and FA cup competitions were suspended from September 2nd 1939 until the end of the war, there was a competition run for public morale called 'The London War Cup' run in 1941 and again in 1942 where teams from some London and south east England clubs played in competition. The winners in 1941 were Reading (who beat Brentford 3-2 in the final at Stamford Bridge ) and in 1942 the final was won by Brentford who beat Portsmouth 2-0 at Wembley Stadium. Brentford then had a play-off game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who had won a similar competition in the Midlands, a week later which ended 1-1.
