Strange, surreal behavior of the three stars.

Warning: Spoilers
I just watched This episode on DVD and found it very strange. The three stars were on The Dick Cavett Show to promote Husbands. Spoiler

Their behavior was similar to one of the scenes in Husbands where they were drunk. In fact, Gazarra did a little dance from the movie. At first the three of them refused to even answer Dick Cavett's questions. Later they revealed that they thought he would think this would be funny. But Dick Cavett seemed very uncomfortable.

John Cassavettes kept giggling and "fell down" on purpose about four times in addition to dropping his cigarette several times. Both Peter Falk and Ben Gazarra exposed one of their legs up to the knee at some point in the show.

The three actors also kept interrupting each other. Peter Falk gave a little speech at a couple of points and so did Ben Gazarra. Once while Peter Falk stood up to give his speech about the movie John Cassavettes ran up and picked Falk up on his shoulders and gave him a bouncing pony ride.

The three actors also all fell on the floor on top of one another. Falk also kept talking directly to the studio audience and the home viewers instead of looking or talking to Cavett. At one point he said "I'm not talking to you" to Cavett.

I'm not completely sure if the three men were acting for the camera to demonstrate what Husbands is about or if they were really drunk. Cassavettes did say several times that he didn't want to talk about the film. Near the end they also apologized to Cavett for their behavior. I also read on the cover of the DVD that Ben Gazarra claimed they hadn't had a drink. But Gazarra carried a drink with him to the stage and they really did look drunk, especially Cassavettes.

Anyway it was interesting, at times funny and very strange. But I'd really like to know the real story, were they drunk or was this acting?
