Cruise against square jungle business

Dick Powell doesn't just present this series and episode, he is also the lead character. He plays a journalist, a reporter who decides to denounce the organized crime. He is no less than a crusader against the evil organization who rule the city. He particularly pays attention to a former prizefighter, played by Sammy Davis Jr, who was deeply involved with the mob, and the two become friends. But, as you can guess, the gangsters are deaf on that ear. This is a true noir story that looks like a classic film for the big screen. Sammy Davis gives a pretty good performance as the former boxing champ, especially when the scenes when he tries to help former champs as he is, with the support of his new pal Powell, the journalist. This is a sort of expose which shows us the swamp that boxing world maybe, how rotten it can be, how it can destroy the fighters. This scheme reminds me TARGET THE CORRUPTORS series, which I commented several months ago. No real action sequences here, but a terrific noir atmosphere instead. Try it, a highlight of the Dick Powell's show.
