Aging, blind dowager Miss Dorothy Ammersly, an advocate of equality for women in the workplace, has consigned her fortune to her niece, successful businesswoman Pauline Stacey. Stacey is not as astute when it comes to judging character and has fallen under the spell of Kalon, an ex-convict who has reinvented himself as the high priest to Apollo, the sun god. Stacy makes out her will, ignoring her sister and naming him as her sole heir. Although Stacey falls to her death down an elevator shaft in close proximity to Kalon, the charlatan has an impeccable alibi witness, Father Brown.
