After a rash of robberies, the evidence implicates a gentle beekeeper as the notorious jewel thief whom the press has dubbed Michael Moonshine. Father Brown keeps faith in his friend, however, and unmasks the real murderer.
Father Brown is staying with an old friend, a retired jewel thief who retired to a career of beekeeping in the country. Someone has been using his m.o. to commit a rash of local robberies, and when he is found shot, the local police inspector assumes he had returned to his former profession.
