Freaks & Geeks delivers once again
SleepTight66616 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
With only three episodes left, Freaks & Geeks delivers once again.

In this episode the freaks story mainly deals with Nick becoming homeless after his dad sells his drums. I have said it before and will say it again, I think that Nick is pathetic. His behavior, it's like dealing with a 3 year old. However, I did enjoy the scenes with him and the Weirds. They were cute and all he really needed was to have someone to be taking care of him.

Although I liked the freaks part, I loved the geeks part even more. Bill is hilarious, Martin Starr is a star. In this episode the geeks go to a make-out party. Sam invites Cindy and they finally share an intimate kiss. Is was about time that they hooked up. The Bill scenes were not only hilarious, but also touching. He had to stay seven minutes in heaven with the obnoxious, mean=spirited Vicky. She looked down upon him until he begins to ask her questions. Like, 'how is it being pretty?'. After realizing what a champ the guy really is, she gave him a nice big smooch. It was one of the most memorable moments of the show.

All of the show's virtues summed up in one episode
Mr-Fusion3 January 2018
'Smooching and Mooching' gets the benefit of following a run of rough episodes, and it feels like things have settled back down. More than that, something good actually happens for these characters. Nick finds a supportive environment outside the home, and Bill tastes victory in the least likely venue: a make-out party. Nick having problems at home means another guest shot by Kevin Tighe - who, along with Seth Rogen, really makes the most of his short time on this show - and the guy is terrifying. One of the episode's highlights is the dichotomy between Mr. Andopolis and Harold Weir, and Joe Flaherty sums it up nicely:

"Nick's father's a hard man. My old man was the same way." "Yeah, I know the feeling." "Lindsay, trust me. You don't"

That tiny exchange between father and daughter shows just how important Flaherty is to this series, and how just a few seconds' screen time can say so much about a character. The guy's a treasure.

You could easily cite this episode as classic "Freaks and Geeks". The songs, the angst, the banter between Freaks (or ball-busting, if you will), the Lindsay/Sam dynamic . . . this is the show operating at its peak. Touching, hilarious and full to bursting with great character moments. The joy you feel when the end credits hit is the kind you wish you can bottle up for later.

The type of episode where 88 minutes would have been as enjoyable as 44.

Warning: Spoilers
To date, this has been my favorite episode of the series.

Martin Starr truly is a gem, and is given some really great scenes to shine. I audibly cheered when he told off Vicki in the closet. Like "get off your Ivory Tower, I'm not any happier about this than you" -- and they end up making out the longest... initiated by Vicki.

Nick is becoming just painfully annoying to watch. The relationship between him and his dad, sadly, counterbalances the one between Lindsay and Harold.

Cindy finally comes to her senses (for now?) and realizes Sam is who she wants. She obviously represents the exception to the rule where at that age Nice Guys rarely get the girl.

Poor Neil. Between previous family drama and his Spin the Bottle Scheme failing, he ain't doing too well.

It's amazing how, at 39, this show takes me back to that age and is completely relatable. Damn, only two more episodes remain.

This episode shows why this show is so great! So many dimensions are exposed if each character! Martin Starr is a STAR! Mr. Weir shows his good side with Nick, Lindsey realizes how lucky she really is, Sam shows his naïveté yet he finally wins, and Bill's innocent yet revealing honesty wins over the hardest audience ever! This episode had me laughing and clapping at the end! Great entertainment!

Smooching and Mooching(#1.16)

Warning: Spoilers
Nick has a fight with his father and stays at Lindsay's house where he gets in a good relationship with her parents. Cindy tells Bill she likes Sam. They all go to a make out party.

The story about Nick is really well written. Honestly in the first episode with his dad he didn't seem to be so bad. But there might be things we don't see. I really liked the connection he had with Lindsay's father. They really showed it so well to us and it was written in great dialogues.

The story of the make out party is also great. Bill is shining once again. I love how he always tells what he thinks and stands up for himself. Vicky was a jerk so he told it to her and ended up making out. Poor Sam's bottle always landing on Bill was also a great part of the episode.
