The two actors who played the detectives in this episode both went on to successful careers behind the camera directing sitcoms.Noam Pitlik directed numerous episodes of Barney Miller and Taxi, among other series, and George Tyne went on to direct episodes of The Odd Couple, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and many other sitcoms.
Ludwig Donath, who guest starred as the father, died of leukemia only nine months after the show originally aired.
This is the fourth and final appearance Noam Pitlik, who plays undercover officer Jim Macklin, makes in this series. He shows up again in Taps for a Dead War (1964), Ballad for a Ghost (1964), and Landscape with Running Figures: Part 1 (1965). He was a prolific character actor, as well as a TV producer and director, contributing his behind-the-camera talents to multiple productions, in particular to Barney Miller (1975) for which he produced or directed well over 100 episodes.
George Tyne, who plays the part of Sergeant Charney, and Edwin Max, who plays the part of Stark the owner of the upholstery shop, also appear together for the first time in the Thieves' Highway (1949) as a couple of dock henchman. They both appear in one other movie, Side Street (1949). Their appearance here in this series is the final time in their careers that they are seen together in the same production. The only other production in which they both take part is The Music Maker (1969), which George Tyne directs and in which Edwin Max acts.
