Mrs. Muir needs money to fix plumbing that's given up the ghost at Gull Cottage. She needs to sell a story but has writer's block, so Captain Gregg steps in to supply an autobiographic narrative for her use. When she waters down his salty and direct language, he's appalled and sends in his own manuscript under her name. "Maiden Voyage" becomes a risqué hit, shocking women and giving men the wrong idea about Mr. Muir herself.
