Mrs. Carolyn Muir's (Hope Lange) late husband's parents arrive at Gull Cottage for a visit. Ralph Muir (character actor Herb Voland) takes Jonathan (Harlen Carraher) out to fish. Jonathan tells Ralph about the Captain, and he and his wife Marjorie (June Vincent) assume Carolyn is afraid to tell them she is going to remarry. They give her their approval until Martha (Reta Shaw) tells them that the Captain is Jonathan's imaginary friend. Ralph sees this as affirmation that the boy needs more male companionship and asks Carolyn to return with them to Philadelphia and live- their original intent for visiting. Now, she must convince them that Jonathan does have male companionship in a comedic plot involving Claymore (Charles Nelson Reilly).
