Captain Gregg (Edward Mulhare) has written a poem for Mrs. Muir (Hope Lange) to express how deeply he feels about her. His attempts to read it to her is continually interrupted. Musician Tim Seagirt (Harry Nilsson) and his manager Steve Locke (Edwin Max) are trapped at Gull Cottage following a sudden cloudburst, initiated by the captain. Scheming Claymore (Charles Nelson Reilly) shows up and everyone is entertained by Seagirt singing "Without Her". While sleeping, Captain Gregg places his poem for Seagirt to take and make a song from.
