Yes, I know she was a cousin to JJ and Michael, too. Thelma, however, is the one who tries to set Naomi straight. This episode works because the obvious buttons are pushed. However, the situation is awkward because this character and her parents were never seen prior to this episode. In her first scene, Naomi is shown drinking in the bathroom. We know nothing about who this character is or what led her to this. The scenes between Thelma and Naomi are well done. Thelma looks cute while she is preaching to Naomi! Naomi was kind of cute, too. But, our Thelma is the good girl! When the adults discover that the liquor bottles have been emptied, they (naturally) suspect poor JJ. Overall, a well done episode. Interesting to see Albert Reed as Naomi's father. After this, he would become Alderman Davis.

Bonnie Banfield and Albert Reed
kevinolzak4 January 2017
"Sometimes There's No Bottom in the Bottle" finds the Evans family entertaining cousin Naomi Wilson (Bonnie Banfield), who spends an inordinate amount of time in the bathroom. Right away we're made aware that she's been stealing every drop of liquor in the place, caught in the act by Thelma, who decides to keep the knowledge to herself. Florida and James catch on when their bottles all taste like Chicago water, and when JJ returns home in frivolous mode they assume he's the guilty party. Only after her parents arrive do they realize that Naomi's lack of coordination is due to booze and not drugs. As Naomi's father, Albert Reed would go on to make six appearances as Alderman Fred Davis, starting next season.
