Austin Pendleton as Donald Hargrove
kevinolzak2 January 2017
"The I.Q. Test" finds the Evans family preparing for Michael's 8th grade graduation party, with JJ expecting his date Henrietta to be there: "she's the hot sauce on my ribs!" Everything comes to a halt when Michael returns home with a low score on his I.Q. test, and a notice suggesting that he go to trade school. When pressed he admits that he walked out and didn't finish it, due to the nature of the questions being unfair to black students, or Hispanic, or other minorities. After comparing this white test to a comparable black one, James and Florida speak to the man who gave Michael the test, Donald Hargrove (Austin Pendleton), who has a penchant for playing with his computer adding machine. Faced with a series of questions familiar to ghetto life, Hargrove's superiority complex is soundly defeated by the proud Evans parents, as James explains: "how you gonna know where I'm at if you ain't been where I been, understand where I'm coming from?"
