Good send-off for Xena as she heads to her own series.

Warning: Spoilers
Hercules, Xena, and Salmoneus set out to stop Darphus who was killed in the previous episode by Xena but resurrected at the end by Ares who sees Xena changing and allying with Hercules as a betrayal to him.

I wish Salmoneus had been in more Xena episodes. He's very funny and has comical banter with Xena, which is sweet given she is such a dark character. But I can see why they didn't as they already had Joxer and Gabrielle(in early seasons) as the comic relief in that series.

Xena and Hercules have a fling. Here's the thing. It's not so bad. Xena is a very different character here than she is in her own series. Xena's sexuality wasn't developed as yet. We did not know yet what this character(and the Xena series) would become, and how important she would be in the LGBTI community. The writers did not know that at this time. Another thing is a lot of people don't like Sorbo and didn't care to see his character hook up with Xena. This is in retrospect as no one at the time had any idea what this actor would end up being like. Can't say I blame them. That aside, the romance was actually ok, short, and I think fitting for Xena's leave off from this series. As Xena says "you unchained my heart." I take this to mean that Xena felt love and compassion maybe not necessarily just for Herc, but for humankind again, innocent villagers, etc. Something she hadn't felt in a long time. And perhaps even some self-worth as she stated to Hercules, how good it felt to help others. He rallies to her support and encourages her in her change. He tells her she has the goodness in her heart as a reason to help others when she is despairing over her life and all the people she killed. I think all these things are important for her character's growth.

This was a pretty good adventure. I liked seeing Xena as she is still trying to absorb her change and becomes a more compassionate character. Some good action scenes. A good leave off from this series for Xena as she heads to her own series. And again Lucy Lawless's presence dominates the screen. I heard at one point the producers were going to kill her off here. Thank goodness they didn't. This is my final review of 'The Xena Trilogy', which is known as the first three episodes that Xena appeared in on Hercules. A lot of Xena fans ask about these episodes that haven't seen Hercules. You may not like Hercules or the actor, or the way Xena was here (her sexuality) but I hope my reviews helped given the context that we were presented with at the time. I gave this episode a 9/10.

Just wanted to add if you are just watching trilogy for the first time, you may not "get it." At the time, the character of Xena was a new type of female/character and it was refreshing. Since that time there have been many female action characters on the screen, and many characters both male and female that have a dark side, but are the hero of whatever show/movie it is. One could argue that Xena was the archetype of many characters that came later. Indeed, there have been a few showrunners and movie producers that have said they were huge Xena fans.
