- Hogan has to discredit a German officer who knows about the operations at Stalag 13.
- At the start, Hogan, Carter, Newkirk, Baker, and LeBeau are dressed in commando black with an Underground agent near a road at night. Agent Bruno comes and talks to the Underground agent. He said that he heard a German sergeant who got drunk talk about a mission. The Germans were taking stolen paintings someplace in an ambulance. Hogan is suspicious. Something is coming down the road; Hogan says wait. A truck marked like an ambulance appears. Hogan pops a paper bag, making it sound like a tire flattening or a gunshot. The truck stops, and 6 soldiers get out, looking for something. They see nothing, get back in the truck, and the truck continues on. Hogan tells the group to leave.
The next day, Hogan is in Klink's office. Klink is talking about Hogan and the men being prisoners. Klink asks Hogan if they know that they are prisoners. Klink talks to Hogan about the prisoners falling out in the morning and roll call; he does not like the sloppy way they are doing it. Hogan is somewhat not listening. Hogan sees a notice in the paper that Field Marshall von Leiter is coming; there will be a party in the area. Klink looks at the notice, and says that he did not get an invitation. Hogan says that it may come in tomorrow's mail. Schultz comes in; he says that there is a Major Pruhst from the Gestapo to see Klink. Pruhst comes in without Schultz bringing him in. Pruhst tells Klink about Klink, that he was 43rd in his class in one school, 95th in his class in military school. Hogan and Schultz are still there listening. Pruhst then tells Klink about Hogan, born in Ohio, 3rd in class as an aviation cadet. Hogan leaves. Pruhst then tells Klink that the area around STALAG 13 has the highest rate of sabotage in the region; evidence points to Hogan. The Gestapo sent a man to town as bait, but Hogan was too smart. Pruhst says that a bridge was blown in the area recently; a witness saw one of the saboteurs in the moonlight, and the description fits Hogan. He wants to send a picture of Hogan to the witness in Berlin to be sure. Pruhst wants Klink to take a picture of Hogan without him knowing it.
Hogan, Carter, Newkirk, Baker, and LeBeau are listening in to the conversation in Hogan's office on the coffee pot.
Pruhst then shows Klink a camera to be put in a glove. This way, he can take a picture without the subject knowing it.
Hogan assembles the men in the yard; he talks to them about falling out in the morning. Pruhst and Klink are walking around the discussion area, with Pruhst trying to get a picture of Hogan. He finally got one, and Pruhst and Klink leave. Hogan dismisses the men. He talks to Newkirk, LeBeau, and Baker. He tells them that Pruhst got the picture; the camera was in his glove. Carter comes up and says that he found an invitation for Klink in the morning mail for Field Marshall von Leiter's party. Hogan leaves. Newkirk says that we have been in trouble together, now Hogan is in it alone.
In Hogan's office, Hogan is looking at information on von Leiter. He has LeBeau get a German uniform, a captain. Carter gives him a fake mustache and glasses. LeBeau is looking out the window into Klink's office with binoculars.
In Klink's office Pruhst gets a phone call; Hogan is the man they are looking for. Pruhst does not want to do anything tonight; he will arrest him in the morning. Pruhst calls Schultz, and tells Schultz to watch Hogan.
In the barracks, Hogan and Carter are playing chess by an open window, with Hogan's back to the window; Schultz is watching them from a distance. Hogan knocks a rook off the table, and drops down to pick it up. Newkirk, wearing Hogan's coat, replaces Hogan with his back to Schultz so he can not be identified. He puts the rook back on a different square; Schultz notices the cheating.
Hogan dresses up as a German infantry captain and goes to von Leiter's party. He sees von Leiter, and talks to him like he is an old friend, Captain Eric Schroffstein. He talks to von Leiter and tells him some stories of his youth and a relative of von Leiter's that he supposedly knew. Pruhst and Klink come to the party, and pay their respects to von Leiter. Klink and Pruhst see Hogan as Schroffstein telling an animated story, and say that he looks like Hogan; Hogan denies it. Von Leiter says that he has known him since he was a child. Hogan talks about a tattoo that he and a friend got; von Leiter remembers it. Hogan rolls up his left sleeve and shows a tattoo of a girl in a bikini. Pruhst and Klink want to get back to camp and leave. Hogan asks von Leiter if he can use his car and chauffeur to get back to his duty station; von Leiter agrees, and says to use the siren as it will get him there faster.
Hogan comes back to camp and comes up through the tunnel. He switches places with Newkirk when Newkirk stands up to stretch, so he is seated at the chess table again. Schultz is still watching; he sees nothing amiss. Pruhst and Klink come to the barracks and see Hogan. Pruhst asks Hogan where he was all night, and Hogan says right here. Hogan gives a story. Pruhst says that he saw Hogan at a party. Hogan says that it was a party for Baron von Richtofen, a party with World War I aces; the Wright Brothers were also there. Klink asks Hogan to roll up his sleeve; Hogan starts to roll up his right sleeve. Klink says the other one, so Hogan rolls up his left sleeve. No tattoo there. Pruhst says that a tattoo can not be removed in such a short time. Pruhst then tells Klink that he wants to get back to the party; Schroffstein in the one they want.
At the end, in the compound, Hogan, Baker, and Carter are playing baseball; Hogan is batting. Hogan hits the ball over the fence. Baker goes to get it, gut a guard stops him. Hogan says the game is over, as they can't get the ball back. Klink asks Hogan about last night. Klink says that Pruhst said that Hogan was the one who blew up the bridge. Klink says that he wishes that Hogan had Captain Schroffstein's sense of humor.
