All four characters make reference to the fact that Switzerland is an extremely mountainous country for Europe. In fact, Switzerland is one of the flattest countries in all of Europe. The only really hilly part of Switzerland is close to the Austrian border. Once a person gets about thirty miles from the Austrian border, Switzerland is flat.
The Swiss bandleader says, "A few feet of snow." Anyone in the metric-used country wouldn't convert 'meters' to 'feet', even to Americans.
