Lucy's bookkeeping has them in the hole and getting everything cut off including the electricity and way behind in the rent. Ricky hires a business manager who pays off all their bills with Ricky's monthly salary but lives them with only five dollars for the entire month!
He won't give Lucy more money but he sets it up so she can charge her groceries at the market. This however leaves no spending money for extras .
Lucy soon finds away around it by shopping for everyone in the apartment building ! The the tenets including Ethel and Mrs Trumble pay Lucy the amount and she keeps it ! She also spends it for herself and ends up with a new dress and gets her hair done. She gives Ricky money for a haircut and shave and manicure. His allowance was gone too.
Ethel reminds Lucy by charging everything to the store credits she will still have to pay that bill at the end of the month.
Ricky can't figure out where Lucy is getting all that money. Fred says it's not from him maybe it's from the business manager. Ricky says no and he makes Fred look like Diamond Jim Brady!
Ethel hasn't blabbed either Fred says only hearing Lucy and Ethel talk about the market. Ricky thinks it's the stock market and finds on a list for Mrs Trumble what he thinks is hot stock ! He buys some and make a small fortune . The business manager advised against it so Ricky fired him and tells Lucy they can trust her hunches better.
