An American photographer sits in a London restaurant with his model girlfriend . They are approached by the receptionist Carrie who begs them not to leave until later . The model leaves to catch a cab and is killed by falling scaffolding . Does Carrie have the ability to predict death ? JOURNEY TO THE UNKNOWN was a television show featuring supernatural plots I remember from my childhood though haven't had the opportunity to see for 28 years . . It's a show I remember clearly but often doubted if it was anyway as being as good as I remembered .
The show itself was a Hammer production financed with American money which we had a fab and groovy swinging London that was populated by ex patriate Americans and Girl Of My Dreams is a good example of this . Draft dodging Yank Greg Richards resides there and all the locals have a " cor blimey guv "mockney accent or speak like the Royal family . There's a very American-centric feel to the series
This isn't necessarily a major criticism and Girl Of My Dreams is a very impressive episode . It's the one episode that sticks out from my childhood memories and even though I knew what the twist ending was going to be which speaks of the quality of the story telling There are a couple of flaws to all this . One is the very obvious way Greg Richards is played Michael Callan . He's a creep and a mercenary opportunist and one wonders what sort of reaction he;d stretch himself to" Jolly good show old boy . Here's a well deserved handshake for saving my life " . Likewise I fail to see any reason why he has to marry Carrie in order to benefit from her second sight . I suppose it's too illustrate what a rat he is but it's obvious , perhaps too obvious what sort of bloke he is without the plotting spelling it out
Regardless of this the episode still holds up well and didn't disappoint in anyway . It's a very enjoyable episode and look forward to seeing the rest of the series for the first time since 1983
