Primal Scream is a sturdy episode that won't blow you away, but manages to hold your attention with it's mix of murderous rampages and digs at corporate America. While few - if any - Kolchak fans consider it one of the best episodes, the image of missing links wandering around a nocturnal and helpless Chicago pleases me too much for me not to try to defend it. Robert Scheerer directs with boldness and the occasional flourish. Jamie Farr is delightfully kooky as school teacher Jack Barton and John Marley is pleasingly nasty as Captain Molnar, although he is considerably more full-on than Kolchak's usual police nemesis.The legendary 'pie cost' scene deserves to be legendary and the whole episode has a warming little-man-against-the-world feel that you would have to be very thick skinned not to be touched by. It's us and them. Always.
