If I didn't know any better I would swear that someone at Laredo got the idea for this episode from the comic western A Big Hand For The Little Lady which came out roughly around the time of this episode. The central character is a gambling woman who is taking on one big gamble.
Jim Goodwin is a millionaire coming to Texas for a big high stakes poker game hosted by Lyle Talbot. Among others coming is Whitney Blake playing a much different role than she was as the mother in Hazel. She's a notorious Poker Alice type lady gambler who has also organized the kidnapping of Goodwin for ransom and she's got a gang to back her play.
When the Rangers break up the first attempt they discover that Goodwin has a voice just like Neville Brand. Once they get over the shock of that Captain Parmalee has Brand substituting for Goodwin while Peter Brown guards Goodwin in a locked room at the Laredo hotel.
Brand kind of likes the lifestyle of millionaire and plays it to the hilt. And Goodwin with Brand's voice dubbed is a real card shark himself. Probably why he's a millionaire. He's really giving Brown a drubbing in blackjack. And not even his game.
As for Blake she's resourceful and deserves a big hand for nearly pulling this off.
