- Anna Craig: I have a confession to make, if I may, Reverend.
- Reverend Robert Alden: Of course you may. That's what reverends are for.
- Anna Craig: Well, I... I love a particular neighbor of mine very much.
- Reverend Robert Alden: I see.
- Anna Craig: It's you.
- Reverend Robert Alden: [laughs nervously] That's... that's very Christian of you, Mrs. Craig. Um... I of course, care about you, in that pure, platonic, rational affection between two of God's creatures.
- Anna Craig: Oh, no Reverend! It's not platonic, and it's not rational! It's a love that surpasseth all understanding.
- Reverend Robert Alden: Oh Dear... Uh... The way the Lord loves us, you might say: Spiritual and sublime.
- Anna Craig: Reverend Alden, I love you. The way a woman loves a man.
- Reverend Robert Alden: If you'll excuse me, Mrs. Craig, um, it's getting late. I have to be going. I want to thank you for everything.
- [Runs out the door]
