Mr. Nerim's name is an anagram of "miner," and his pack animal Robur is an anagram of "burro."
This is the first color episode.
Season 2 found the series pitted against Batman (1966) on ABC. To compete with that hugely popular (and campy) show, Lost in Space (1965) started becoming more over-the-top and humorous with greater emphasis being given to the characters of Smith, Will and the Robot. This didn't go down very well with cast members Mark Goddard and Guy Williams who preferred a more serious sci-fi show.
Unlike other episodes, no one is credited with playing the monster of the week. In this case it was Dr. Smith's statute who came to life with the aid of cosmonium. Former basketball player Dawson Palmer was credited with playing creatures in 16 other episodes and is the most likely suspect.
A new animated main title sequence was created for this first episode in color. It features Will's character tangled up in line and Dr. Smith's character shooting a ray gun.
