The original stage play starred
Gertrude Lawrence and
Michael Gough, with
Bryan Forbes in one of his first roles after drama school. After a UK tour of Blackpool, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester, it opened at the Aldwych Theatre, London on December151948 and ran to August 1949. Apart from a week at
Richard Aldrich's Cape Cod Playhouse in 1949, it was never produced in the US.
