- After a run-in with Major Houlihan, Henry is not altogether unhappy when the nurses are evacuated due to a possible enemy attack but soon finds out with rest of the camp just how much the nurses mean to the unit.
- Henry is drinking bi-carb as he listens to the griping of Hermann Goering in drag, (Hotlips) going on and on about putting a poor little nurse on bed arrest. Radar tells Henry an enemy attack is imminent; Henry regards it as the best news of the day. The nurses are taking the patients to the 44th Field Hospital and the men will be left to fend for themselves and try to fight off the enemy paratroopers. The guys gain new, genuine appreciation for the nurses; they miss them, especially when they have to do their jobs. The 4077 nurses made it all look so easy--the guys find out how hard their jobs really are. Will the nurses return from the cushy 44th Evac? Will they miss the guys at 4077...even half as much as the guys miss them?—LA-Lawyer
- Henry is drinking bi-carb as he listens to the griping of Hermann Goering in drag (nickname that the other nurses have given Hotlips) going on and on about putting a poor little nurse on bed arrest. Pvt Baker, a nurse had the guts to do her job right and stand up to Frank in the operating room. Frank was berating pvt Baker for giving him the instruments he asked for, and she kept telling him off. Now Hot Lips has her on her list and wont stop before Henry assigns a punishment to her. She wants her disciplined for insubordination. She wants her placed under bed arrest. Sit at her bed at attention for a month, when not on duty, and not having food. Henry calls Houlihan and her nurses a pain in the butt. Houlihan threatens to go over his head, again, and complain that 4077th MASh is being run by an inept, incompetent CO, who runs down her chief nurse every chance he gets.
Radar tells Henry an enemy attack is imminent; Henry regards it as the best news of the day. The nurses and the wounded are taken to the 44th Field Hospital and the men will be left to fend for themselves and try to fight off the enemy paratroopers. Frank has the troops dig fox holes all around the hospital. He wants the foxholes smartly done, the kind of holes that a man is proud to thrown himself into. He even lowers himself into the hole to show the right depth for the holes to be dug. Trapper and Hawkeye taken every second kissing the nurses, before they are sent off. even Frank and Houlihan say their lusty goodbyes to each other. Frank gives her his hair to remember him by. As Houlihan and her nurses board the truck, Hawkeye kisses her passionately in front of everyone. Trapper and Hawkeye listen in on Frank's call to Margaret (The only things keeping him going are the letters from his wife.. He promises to kill Houlihan and himself, if he finds out that she is seeing someone else). when he finds out, he chases them and falls into his own foxhole. Trapper and Hawkeye park a jeep over his foxhole.
Klinger gets the catcalls as he is the only person in dresses anymore. The whole camp misses the nurses. They cant evacuate as the wounded are still coming in. The guys gain new, genuine appreciation for the nurses; they miss them, especially when they have to do their jobs. The 4077 nurses made it all look so easy--the guys find out how hard their jobs really are. Even Father Mulcahy, Klinger and Radar have to help out with nursing duties. Hawkeye and Trapper find a film in Frank's possessions and watch it with Henry, radar and Klinger. It turns out to be Frank's wedding video. His wife is stern looking and frigid. Looks very bossy on screen.
The attack turns out to be run by 5 o'clock Charlie, who drops propaganda leaflets on the MASh unit. Radar promises to have the nurses back by the next day.
