Storyline
Did you know
- TriviaOne of the few episodes where Mannix doesn't subdue the bad guys before the cops arrive.
- GoofsWhen Mannix and Elena escape it is apparently supposed to be nighttime -- lights inside the house are visible, the porch light is on, the jeep's headlights are on, and the dialogue suggests it is night. But the scenery outside is very brightly lighted, too light for even full moonlight.
- Quotes
Joe Mannix: [wakes up in the middle of the night after drinking his spiked scotch with Elena sitting by his bed] You mind telling me what this is all about?
Elena: You want to get away from here, don't you?
Joe Mannix: Do you know a way?
Elena: Yes.
Joe Mannix: Well, what about you? Suppose they guess you're the one that turned me loose?
Elena: Harry will take care of me.
Joe Mannix: Harry who?
Elena: Harry Tass.
Joe Mannix: Harry Tass? Here?
Elena: You know him.
Joe Mannix: Yeah, I know him.
Elena: He wants you dead.
Joe Mannix: Yeah...
Elena: You'll have a good head start. They don't expect you to wake up until morning.
[starts unting Joe from the ropes he's bound to]
Joe Mannix: Hey, by the way, uh... thanks for that message. Otherwise, I might have finished that drink.
Elena: Shh!
[footsteps are heard retreating]
Joe Mannix: Are they all in the same business as Harry?
Elena: Yeah, it's a pool. You know, like a secretarial pool?
Joe Mannix: Only this is one for hit men. A place to cool off between jobs... draw weapons, get assignments. Is that why Harry's here, to get an assignment?
[Elena doesn't answer]
Joe Mannix: When? Where?
Elena: You better worry about yourself.
[frees Joe from the ropes that are tied around his wrist]
Joe Mannix: Who's Harry's target?
Elena: Drop it.
Joe Mannix: I know Harry Tass enough to know that he's only used for top jobs.
Elena: I said drop it.
Joe Mannix: Did he say anything? Give any hints?
Elena: Harry is my man. You're just passing traffic.
[frees Joe from the ropes tied around his feet]
Joe Mannix: Well... the man he's gonna kill must be somebody pretty important. Doesn't that mean anything to you?
Elena: No, not if it'll hurt Harry.
Joe Mannix: He's your man.
Elena: That's right. We can go now.
The performances from John Hillerman and Barbara Luna are exceptional, as are the performances from the rest of the cast, including Frank Langella, whose character Harry Tass has the most bizarre and scary quivering eyes you'll ever see! Also, instead of the normal suit and tie, you get to see Joe in a classic '70s leisure suit!
There are no clichés, which has been a recurring theme this season. Joe doesn't get clobbered over the head or run off the road by another car and the police don't rush in at the end to wrap everything up.
This episode is fantastic. It's action-packed and suspenseful and will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. It also has a shocking twist at the end and some great scenery too. Don't miss this one! It's one of the best of the entire series!
