The Bogus Chief

Warning: Spoilers
Rock Hudson gets to play two parts in this McMillan&Wife show. Of course he's the San Francisco Police Commissioner, but he's also a gigolo hustler that Andrew Duggan pays to impersonate the Commissioner.

It's all part of an elaborate scheme that Duggan has devised to kidnap a witness that's being held in a secret location. So McMillan is kidnapped and the bogus finishes his meal with Susan Saint James at the restaurant they were dining at.

By this time it was conceded that Rock Hudson was no longer a pretty face and certainly developed the acting chops to carry off a dual role. He also executes an escape which you knew he would in time to foil the whole scheme.

Amazingly Saint James never suspects and Nancy Walker as Mildred does suspect something is afoot, but that's attributed to her low opinion of the male species.

This McMillan&Wife story should please series fans.

You Can Never Tell!

Rock Hudson played double duty as Police Commissioner MacMillan and a lookalike criminal in this episode. It's a memorable episode for Hudson's double duty but I didn't like him in the other role. It displayed his acting chops. Nancy Walker, John Schuck and Susan Saint James don't know that there's an imposter posing as San Francisco police commissioner to stop a witness from testifying against the mob.
