Quotes

  • Penn Jillette : [28:21]  Take some time and put the Bible on your summer reading list. Try and stick with it cover to cover. Not because it teaches history, we've shown you it doesn't. Read it because you'll see for yourself what the Bible is all about, it sure isn't great literature. If it were published as fiction, no reviewer would give it a passing grade. There are some vivid scenes and some quotable phrases, but there's no plot, no structure, there's a tremendous amount of filler and the characters are... painfully one-dimensional. Whatever you do, *don't* read the Bible for a moral code. It advocates prejudice, cruelty, superstition and murder. Read it because we need more atheists, and nothing will get you there faster than reading the damn Bible.

  • Penn Jillette : The characters and events depicted in the damn bible are fictitious. Any similarity to any actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

  • Penn Jillette : [26:10]  You want to pick and choose? Let's go further. Let's go along with Dr. Meier and use the bible to impeach the bible. Check these out. No out of context bullshit. This is what it says: Exodus 21:7 says it's OK to sell your daughter into slavery. Not even in Nevada! Exodus 35:2 anyone working on the Sabbath shall be put to death. You really gonna feel good about enforcing that one? Corinthians 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you that if a man hath long hair it is a shame onto him. Well OK let's write about that one. AND, continuing on, 19-24 a man should not go near a woman when she's on her period. Try asking a judge if she's on the rag before approaching the bench in traffic court. If you believe it's your God and your god is infallable, you can't throw out some of the rules just because you don't like them.
