This is an adaptation of 'The Case of the Vagabond Virgin'. It is the first of two adaptations of a Gardner novel not to retain its original title.
Most likely it was changed due to the fact that the TV censors at the time, would not allow the word "virgin" to be used on tv, even in the title of the episode.

Lee Miller, who played the Deputy Sheriff and testified first in the trial, was Raymond Burr's stand-in in this series (as well as in Ironside (1967)). He also played Sergeant Brice in several episodes, as well as appearing in uncredited roles in many other episodes.
