Rather Pointless Effort

Sally Kellerman plays a woman who is studying to be a witch. She has been the president of some small town women's club forever. She has this sort of magical, ethereal look about her. She has a rival who recognizes that she has powers. This woman blames her for every little thing that goes wrong, grey hairs, cakes that go flat, zits, on and on. She is obsesses with trying to take away presidency of the club and researches the antidotes to witchcraft. The problem with this story is that we have no sympathy for the tiresome rantings of this woman and it seems that the things she complains about are just the kinds of things that happen to people as they go through their daily existence. The other thing is that she is pathetic.

"I love to fun about witch things."

Warning: Spoilers
This Bradbury episode sets a rather humorous tone throughout, with Sally Kellerman portraying Clara Goodwater, a sort of Zen inspired and long time president of the Ladies Honeysuckle Harmony Lodge. Fellow lodge member Elmira Brown (Jayne Eastwood) sees an opening to dethrone Clara when she finds out that the woman is studying to be a witch! I never got the impression that Elmira's string of bad luck had anything to do with hexes or magic potions, the lady was just incredibly clumsy and self centered. The new election for club president is held, and Clara handily wins, and in a fit of pique, Elmira storms out a rear exit and falls off a landing, knocking herself out. Clara does a noble thing by reviving Elmira and making her the president, but in doing so, makes the end of the story kind of pointless.

A welcome and introduction into witch society.

This "Ray Bradbury Theater" episode from season 4 called "Exorcism" is one that's a little odd, silly, and even lame. It stars Sally Kellerman as Clara Goodwater a busy body southern belle lady who wants to become a witch, plus she even runs the lady's town club. She already has powers that she even uses to keep a rival neighbor at bay. Now it's all about being in the club and clique so slowly yet surely it's like a new life begins. Really now welcome to the new witch society! Overall silly odd far out episode not one of the series better ones.
